Your host will be: Riverbed CTO Hansang Bae! As you probably know, Wireshark is a free and open source packet analyzer — a network troubleshooting tool that’s extremely popular. (Riverbed is Wireshark’s corporate host.)

Hansang, Gerald and Jasper, "the Wireshark Experts" have all been featured on WWW.Lovemytool.com and this series is not one you want to miss! We all need to get back to the basics and this will be an opportunity to see how three of the best use Wireshark to this end!

If you like In-Person training this trio and other Wireshark Network and Security Experts, like Laura Chappell, Betty DuBois  will be at Wireshark 2017 to be held June 19 through the 22nd at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA.

What if you cannot attend the U.S. Wireshark - Then check out SharkFest Europe, to be staged in Estoril, Portugal from November 6–10. Contact sharkfest@wireshark.org for conference details.

Wireshark’s features include: The ability to perform deep inspection of thousands of network communications protocols with Live capture and offline analysis The ability to read live data from Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more Decryption support for many protocols!

These webinars will feature Wireshark’s creator, Gerald Combs; Riverbed’s Director of Open Source Projects; Riverbed CTO Hansang Bae; and expert protocol analyst Jasper Bongertz who joined forces in 2016 to deliver the well-received “In the Packet Trenches” three-part webinar series at Sharkfest.

Now they’re following up with a new three-part “Back to the Packet Trenches” series that will showcase Wireshark troubleshooting techniques in increasingly pervasive cloud and SaaS-based use-case scenarios.

What’s in store for you when you sign up for these free webinars? We spoke to Combs and Bae to find out. Troubleshooting in the new world of SaaS/IaaS Wireshark has always been a network troubleshooter’s tool of choice. But in the brave new world of SaaS and distributed networking, troubleshooting gets a lot more complex. “When the software or service you connect to doesn’t belong to you, how does the troubleshooting change?” asks Bae. “That question will be addressed throughout the series.

They will have real-world packet examples to help attendees learn how to better use the tool.

” Back to the Packet Trenches 2017 Series: Part 1 Thursday, March 9 from 9–10:30 a.m. Pacific/12–1:30 p.m. Eastern Join Hansang Bae, Riverbed CTO and packet analysis guru, and special guests Gerald Combs and Jasper Bongertz as they return to the packet trenches to instruct attendees in Wireshark techniques that will enlighten and inform troubleshooting regimens in cloud (both on and off premises) and SaaS-based environments.

This Trio of Experts will focus on the fundamentals “A lot of people like to have two-sided traces,” says Bae. “One at the client; one at the server, so you can see where packets are getting lost; latency; and what’s happening generally. But when it comes to SaaS that goes out the door — you can only capture traffic from your perspective. In that world, you have to go deep and understand the protocol. It’s even more important to have the proper understanding of TCP/IP to troubleshoot.” “There are certain fundamentals that Hansang is particularly suited to pass on to people at any level of expertise,” says Combs. “You need to master them to effectively maintain healthy, robust networks no matter what they are — hybrid, cloud, whatever. Things are moving and changing fast, but the fundamentals remain the same.

In this series, we put them in the context of modern networks.” Get the tools that make the meal “Handing somebody a copy of Wireshark is like handing somebody a chef’s knife and a cutting board,” says Combs. “There’s a lot you can do just through trial and error, but if you want to learn how to use the tools quickly and effectively, it’s really helpful to take a class — either a cooking class, or a class with Hansang.

” Part one of the “Back to the Packet Trenches” series is on Thursday, March 9 at 9 a.m. Pacific/12 p.m. Eastern. Sign up today for free. “You have the cutting board and the knife,” says Bae, “and we’ll show you how to slice and dice packets and applications.”
