We were in the middle of one of my network janitor jobs and we were trying to figure out who is which port. I did not have a username to log in the switch, nor did have SNMP access, so I leveraged CDP to figure it out.
Basically we plugged the cable in question into my laptop and captured a CDP packet, which identified the switch name, and port that I was connected to.
Then i showed the group that we can do this from the command prompt saving quite a bit of time moving around the GUI. It was suggested to me that I use this for my next write up and I never got around to it, until today.
Enjoy
