When I perform site surveys I usually have a floor map, paper, pen and a laptop or a WiFi tool.
Quick tip; when the client doesn't have a floor plan available, I simply walk up to the elevator or starwell and snap a photo of that floor plan. In most cases, that photo is good enough.
I mark the AP locations, and walk around. When I get to a measurement point, I create a reference symbol on the map. then I record that reference point, signal strength, Noise and throughput on paper or my laptop. Then I go away to create my report with all my chicken scratches and vague memory.
I've tried AirMagnet's Survey Pro and found it really helpful since it puts all that info right on the map. So I thought I would share how I used it with you.
Enjoy
