I run into this quite often where the client isn't sure which port the client is connected to.
I have used many tools where you can click on an icon within a fancy network management application, and simply enter the ip address or hostname to reveal what it is connected to.
Unfortunately, sometimes my clients or I don't have access to such a system, so its important to know how to do it 'old school'.
