A technician saw me do this the other day and commented that I should write something up about this.
The trick was that I preconfigured my network equipment prior to sending it out even when i knew the config was going to change. My reasoning was that many times the technician doesn't have the correct console cable, usb to serial adapter, or just not familar with a terminal emulator.
So I always preconfigure the equipment so I can get in via IP as a plan B.
